*GOD CALLS US
Pastor: The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you!
Congregation: And also with you!
C: I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,
P: Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy,
C: For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now;
P: Being confident of this very thing:
C: That he who began a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ!
P: Let us give thanks and praise to the Lord!
Congregation: For it is proper and right to do so!
Sing: p78s Psalm119:6-16
GOD CLEANSES US
You may kneel as you are able:
Pastor: DEARLY beloved brethren, the Scripture teaches us, in many places, to acknowledge and confess our manifold sins.
Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love;
C: according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions.
Pastor: Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
C. And cleanse me from my sin!
P. For I know my transgressions,
C: And my sin is ever before me.
P: Against you, you only, have I sinned
C: And done what is evil in your sight,
P: so that you may be justified in your words
C: and blameless in your judgment.
P: Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,
P: and in sin did my mother conceive me.
P: Therefore, as many as are here present, please accompany me with a pure heart, and humble voice, unto the throne of the heavenly grace, saying—
Congregation: ALMIGHTY and most merciful Father; We have erred, and strayed from your ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the schemes and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against your holy laws. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; And we have done those things which we ought not to have done; And there is no strength in us. O Lord have mercy upon us, miserable offenders. Spare those, O God, who confess their faults. Restore those who are penitent; According to your promises declared unto mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord. And grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake; That we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and obedient life, To the glory of Your Holy Name.
(Silent prayer of confession)
Pastor: Declaration of Pardon: As Christ’s minister and by his authority, I proclaim to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins; in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost!
*All stand and sing the Gloria Patri. [please raise holy hands]
*P: Lift up your hearts!
C: We lift them up to the Lord!
P: I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt,
C: out of the house of slavery.
P: You shall have no other gods before me.
C: You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
P: You shall not bow down to them or serve them; for I the LORD your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,
C: but showing mercy to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.
P: You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain,
C: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.
P : Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the LORD your God commanded you.
C : Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
P: but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work,
C: you or your son or your daughter or your male servant or your female servant, or your ox or your donkey or any of your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates, that your male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you.
P: You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the LORD your God brought you out from there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm.
C: Therefore the LORD your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.
P: Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God commanded you,
C: that your days may be long, and that it may go well with you in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.
P: You shall not murder.
C: And you shall not commit adultery.
P: And you shall not steal.
C: And you shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
P: And you shall not covet your neighbor's wife.
C: And you shall not desire your neighbor's house, his field, or his male servant, or his female servant, his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor's.'
*SONGS OF ASCENT
P: For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.
C: By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name!
Ascension: p27s Psalm 34:11-22, NK Psalm 16***
GOD TEACHES US
Scriptures: (below) Reader: Elder Ralph Reigle
2 Kings 2:1–2 (AV)
1 And it came to pass, when the LORD would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal. 2 And Elijah said unto Elisha, Tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to Bethel. And Elisha said unto him, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they went down to Bethel.
2 Kings 2:6–14 (AV)
6 And Elijah said unto him, Tarry, I pray thee, here; for the LORD hath sent me to Jordan. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they two went on. 7 And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood to view afar off: and they two stood by Jordan. 8 And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground. 9 And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me. 10 And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so. 11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. 12 And Elisha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces. 13 He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of Jordan; 14 And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is the LORD God of Elijah? and when he also had smitten the waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over.
Psalm 16 (AV)
Michtam of David. 1 Preserve me, O God: for in thee do I put my trust. 2 O my soul, thou hast said unto the LORD, Thou art my Lord: my goodness extendeth not to thee; 3 But to the saints that are in the earth, and to the excellent, in whom is all my delight. 4 Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god: their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take up their names into my lips. 5 The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot. 6 The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage. 7 I will bless the LORD, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons. 8 I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. 9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope. 10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. 11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.
Galatians 5:1 (AV)
1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
Galatians 5:13–25 (AV)
13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. 14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 15 But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another. 16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. 18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
Luke 9:51–62 (AV)
51 And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem, 52 And sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him. 53 And they did not receive him, because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem. 54 And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did? 55 But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. 56 For the Son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them. And they went to another village. 57 And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. 58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head. 59 And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. 60 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God. 61 And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house. 62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

*Doxology (TEMPO UP)
*Congregation: I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary; suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there he shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost. I believe in the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and life everlasting. Amen!
